A reliable computational algorithm to score the impairment scale calculations of the ASIA International Standards For Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI)
Not to be used for clinical purposes unless verified by a clinician.
What is ISNCSCI?
The International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI) is an examination used to score the motor and sensory impairment and severity of a spinal cord injury. The American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) International Standards Committee is responsible for reviewing and revising the ISNCSCI to reflect current evidence.
What is the ISNCSCI Algorithm?
This site, developed by the Praxis Spinal Cord Institute (Praxis) in collaboration with the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) and a group of international experts, provides a tool which utilizes the raw test scores determined by performing the exam to electronically score and classify a spinal cord injury using the ISNCSCI Eighth Edition (Revised 2019) scoring rules. Please note that prior to use for clinical purposes, the results should be verified by a clinician.
This algorithm is designed to produce a spinal cord injury classification consistent with the International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury developed and maintained by, and the copyright to which is owned by, the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA). Praxis Spinal Cord Institute's use of the ASIA International Standards is by permission of ASIA.
Your feedback on how the algorithm performs and any desired future features will help ensure that the algorithm continues to meet the needs of SCI researchers and clinicians. Thank you for your support of this project.
How can I incorporate the algorithm into my database or EMR?
The ISNCSCI Algorithm is available in an open source format free of charge, and can be downloaded from our source code page.
